The inspiration for this piece was the Cajita, an Afro-Peruvian percussion instrument. I developed ideas from the Festejo style and mixed them with irregular phrasings and Jazz harmonies. It is a great theme for the Ania Paz Trio to perform, since everyone has a moment to express himself/herself deeply. I love the way that Christoph evolves his drums solo beyond the Cajita pattern and how Carmelo makes his bass sing and creates exciting spaces.
